Christopher Nolan’s film “Oppenheimer” emerged as the big winner at the 96th Academy Awards, winning seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, Variety reports.
The film, which portrays J. Robert Oppenheimer, the key figure behind the atomic bomb, clinched several awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy. Christopher Nolan, after multiple nominations over two decades, finally won his first Oscar for Best Director, with his wife Emma Thomas receiving the Best Picture award alongside him.
Despite receiving 10 nominations, “Killers of the Flower Moon” failed to secure any wins, while “Poor Things” earned four awards, primarily in technical categories. Emma Stone won Best Actress for her role in “Poor Things,” beating out Lily Gladstone, who was expected to make history as the first Native American woman to win the category for her performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
The documentary “20 Days in Mariupol” shed light on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, winning Best Documentary Feature. Director Mstyslav Chernov delivered an emotional speech, expressing his wish for peace in his homeland and urging filmmakers to continue highlighting the truth about Ukraine.
