‘Oppenheimer’ Dominates Golden Globes, ‘Poor Things’ Upsets ‘Barbie’ in Comedy

At the 81st Golden Globes, Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” won five awards, including Best Drama, Best Director, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. and for Ludwig Göransson’s score, Associated Press reports.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” surprised by beating “Barbie” for the Best Comedy or Musical category, with Emma Stone earned recognition for the portrayal of Bella, a Victorian-era woman on a surreal journey of self-discovery.

“Barbie,” the year’s top-grossing film, faced a two-hour wait before securing awards for Best Song and a new category, “cinematic and box office achievement.”

Lily Gladstone made history as the first Indigenous winner in the Best Actress in a Dramatic Film category for “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

The ceremony also recognized achievements in television, with “Succession” winning Best Drama Series for the third time and Hulu’s “The Bear” taking Best Comedy Series.

Other notable winners included “Beef,” which won three awards, and Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron,” which upset “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” for Best Animated Film.
