Alphabet’s Waymo announced that its autonomous ride-hailing service Waymo One is now accessible to everyone in Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone in the growth and adoption of autonomous driving technology, Reuters reports.
The service had previously opened to the public in San Francisco and Phoenix, and nearly 300,000 people had joined its waitlist in Los Angeles, indicating strong demand. This expansion follows a successful $5.6 billion funding round, as the driverless technology industry grows, despite facing regulatory scrutiny.
Competitors, including Tesla and General Motors, are also expanding their autonomous services, with Tesla planning to launch driverless ride-hailing in California and Texas next year.
