At Least 16 People Dead After Floods, Landslides in Bosnia

At least 16 people have died in Bosnia and Herzegovina due to severe flooding and landslides caused by torrential rain, with many more reported missing, Reuters reports.

The municipality of Jablanica, near Sarajevo, was particularly hit hard, becoming completely cut off after roads and rail links were destroyed. Reports indicate that between 20 to 40 people are missing, potentially trapped under rubble or swept away by floods. The government declared a state of natural disaster and requested military assistance, deploying engineers and rescue units to the affected areas.

The floods are considered the worst since 2014, following an unprecedented summer drought in the region, which has been attributed to climate change. Neighboring countries like Croatia and Serbia have offered aid, with Croatia also experiencing flooding, although without casualties.
