- A rare tropical storm in the Malacca Strait triggered torrential rain, deadly floods, and landslides across Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and parts of Malaysia, resulting in over 1,000 deaths.
- Indonesia reported around 604 deaths, Sri Lanka about 366, Thailand with 176, and Malaysia reported 3 deaths. More than 800 people remain missing, including 464 in Indonesia and 367 in Sri Lanka.
- The disasters have displaced hundreds of thousands of people, with about 290,700 displaced in Indonesia, 218,000 in Sri Lanka, 11,600 in Malaysia, and roughly 3 million affected in Thailand.
- Thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed, and critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, telecommunications, water, electricity, and other infrastructure, has been severely affected. Over 28,000 homes were damaged in Indonesia alone.
- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited affected provinces and pledged to rebuild damaged infrastructure. Thailand has mobilised the military for evacuations and begun compensation payments of 239 million baht for 26,000 people.
