Police Arrest More Than 100 Pro-Palestinian Protesters at Columbia University

New York police dismantled a pro-Palestinian protest camp at Columbia University, leading to the arrest of over 100 demonstrators, with some students facing suspension from Columbia and Barnard College, Associated Press reports.

The protesters opposed Israeli military actions and demanded divestment from companies supporting “Israeli apartheid.” Despite attempts to engage with protesters, the university cleared the encampment after Columbia President Nemat Shafik warned of suspensions if the protest continued.

New York Mayor Eric Adams stated the city intervened at the university’s request due to violations of campus policies. Police conducted peaceful arrests, and protesters regrouped on campus demanding amnesty for disciplined students.
