New York prosecutors have charged Luigi Mangione, 26, with the murder of UnitedHealth executive Brian Thompson, following a five-day manhunt that ended with Mangione’s arrest at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Reuters reports.
Mangione, who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, was in possession of a “ghost gun,” silencer, multiple fake IDs, and a large sum of cash, raising suspicions about possible accomplices and intentions. A handwritten document reportedly revealed Mangione’s motive, indicating resentment toward corporate America and engraved shell casings at the crime scene referencing a critical book about the insurance industry titled “Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It.”
Thompson’s murder has sparked public frustration among Americans over health insurance companies’ practices, highlighting issues like denied claims and high treatment costs.
