Sudan’s army has declared the rival paramilitary organisation the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) a rebel group following three days of fighting, Al Jazeera reports.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, commander of the Sudanese army and the de facto head of state, has ordered the dissolution of the RSF, according to the Sudanese foreign ministry.
On Saturday, fighting began between the Sudanese armed forces and the RSF militia after months of heightened tensions between the groups.
At least 97 civilians have been killed in the fighting, but the number is expected to be higher, according to the Sudan Doctor’s Syndicate.
