At least 50 people killed in an airstrike at a concert in Myanmar, held by an ethnic minority organization in conflict with the country’s military junta.
The military hit the northern state of Kachin, where the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has been fighting for greater autonomy for the Kachin people.
The attack happened during the celebrations of the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Kachin army’s political wing, the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO).
The airstrike killed at least 50 people, with some media outlets reporting up to 80 killed, including civilians, local singers and officers of the KIA.
Following the military coup early last year, there has been open conflict between the Myanmar army and armed resistance movements across the country.
