Floods in Myanmar, triggered by Typhoon Yagi, have killed at least 226 people in just over a week, with 77 still missing, Reuters reports.
The severe rains have severely affected central provinces, including Mandalay, Naypyitaw, and parts of Shan state, already grappling with conflict since the military coup in 2021. The disaster has submerged 40,000 acres of agricultural land and damaged approximately 26,700 homes. Relief efforts are underway, with 388 camps established across nine regions to provide essentials like food and water.
Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm to hit Asia this year, has also caused devastation across Southeast Asia, killing at least 292 people in Vietnam, 45 in Thailand, and three in Laos.
