A suicide car bomber hit a school bus in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province on Wednesday, killing five people, including three children, and injuring 38. The attack occurred near Khuzdar city as the bus was transporting children to a military-run school. Officials warned the death toll could rise, with several children in critical condition.
Pakistan’s government and military swiftly condemned the attack, with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemning the bombing as an act of “sheer barbarism.” Indian Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the military accuse neighboring India of orchestrating the bombing through “terror proxies” in Balochistan, though no evidence has been presented. India denied the claim, accusing Pakistan of deflecting from its internal issues.
No group has claimed responsibility, but suspicion falls on the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group known for frequent attacks in the province. The BLA recently vowed to escalate attacks against the military and its affiliates.
