Pakistani Airstrikes on Afghanistan Kill 10 People, Taliban Says

  • Afghanistan’s Taliban government accused Pakistan of carrying out airstrikes in Khost, Kunar, and Paktika provinces, killing at least 10 civilians, including nine children, and wounding four others.
  • Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid called the strikes a violation of Afghan sovereignty and pledged a response “at the appropriate time.”
  • Pakistan’s military denied targeting civilians and said the strikes aimed at Pakistani Taliban (TTP) hideouts in eastern Afghanistan near the border, responsible for attacks inside Pakistan.
  • The reported airstrikes came a day after a suicide bombing in Peshawar, Pakistan, which killed three paramilitary personnel and injured 11 others.
  • Pakistan has accused the Taliban of allowing the TTP to operate from Afghan soil, which Kabul denies.
  • Both countries had signed a ceasefire in October after deadly border clashes killed dozens, but subsequent talks failed to reach a long-term agreement.
