Bill Gates has reportedly donated around $50 million to Future Forward, a nonprofit organization supporting US Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, marking a significant shift in his previously apolitical stance, New York Times reports.
Although Gates has not publicly endorsed Harris, he expressed concerns about a potential second term for Donald Trump and the impact it could have on global health and family planning programs. He has acknowledged that the current election is unique, emphasizing the need for candidates who prioritize healthcare, poverty reduction, and climate change.
The donation was made to Future Forward USA Action, a 501(c)(4) “dark money” organization that does not disclose its donors, ensuring Gates’s contribution remains anonymous. Gates has previously resisted large political donations to maintain credibility with both Democrats and Republicans.
