Typhoon Bebinca, the strongest storm to hit Shanghai since 1949, struck the city on Monday, causing significant disruption, AP News reports.
The typhoon, with winds of 151 kph (94 mph), led to widespread flooding, fallen trees, and power outages. Over 414,000 people were evacuated, schools were closed, and over 60,000 emergency responders were deployed. The storm led to flight cancellations and disrupted train and ferry services, affecting travel during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The typhoon weakened as it moved inland, affecting neighboring provinces Jiangsu, Anhui, and Zhejiang with heavy rainfall.
Typhoon Yagi, which recently struck Southeast Asia, has caused severe devastation, resulting in significant fatalities across multiple countries including Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
