Heavy rains in southern Ethiopia have caused a devastating landslide in Gofa Zone, resulting in at least 157 deaths, with rescue efforts ongoing as authorities continue to search for missing individuals and bodies, DW News reports.
The disaster struck as people were attempting to rescue others from the mud, and some remain unaccounted for. The victims include 96 men and 50 women, and there are reports of children found clinging to the bodies of deceased family members. At least five people have been rescued alive.
