Andy Serkis to Direct and Star in the ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’

Andy Serkis is set to direct and reprise his iconic role as Gollum in the “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” one of two newly announced “Lord of the Rings” films, Associated Press reports.

The movies will be produced by the Oscar-winning team behind the original trilogies, including Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, with Walsh and Boyens co-writing the screenplay. The collaboration between Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema is expected to be released in 2026.

The franchise has been highly successful, with the previous films grossing nearly $6 billion combined and winning multiple Oscars. Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens expressed their excitement to return to Middle-earth with Serkis, emphasizing their commitment to Tolkien’s world.

Additionally, Warner Bros. has another animated fantasy film, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” scheduled for release in December.
