Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Beijing to strengthen diplomatic ties with China amidst Russia’s conflict with Ukraine and efforts to align their foreign policies against the US and its allies, Associated Press reports.
Lavrov met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and covered a range of topics, including the situation in Ukraine, bilateral cooperation, and international affairs. China supports Russia’s narrative regarding the Ukraine conflict, claiming it was provoked by the West, but maintains a neutral stance of advocating for peace talks. Additionally, China has denied providing arms or military assistance to Russia.
The visit coincides with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s talks in China, where discussions included national security concerns and challenges posed by China’s industrial policies.
