A missile attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on a commercial ship in the Gulf of Aden, has killed three crew members and forced the survivors to abandon the vessel, Associated Press reports.
The ship, the True Confidence, was targeted by an anti-ship ballistic missile, causing significant damage and casualties. The attack, the first fatal strike in a campaign of assaults by the Iranian-backed group, marks an escalation in the conflict on a crucial maritime route and disrupts global shipping.
The incident prompted condemnation from the United Nations and the US, with the Houthis urged to cease attacks on international shipping. The Houthis have been launching attacks since November, and the US began airstrikes in January, which have not halted the attacks.
Meanwhile, Iran announced the confiscation of a $50 million cargo of Kuwaiti crude oil for Chevron Corp. aboard a tanker seized a year earlier.
