A U.S. airstrike on the Ras Isa oil port in Yemen has killed at least 74 people and wounded over 170, according to the Houthi-run health ministry. The incident marks the deadliest strike since U.S. President Donald Trump launched a renewed military campaign against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels last month.
The strike, which took place in Yemen’s western Hodeida province, targeted a critical fuel import hub that has been under Houthi control for years. The attack destroyed several oil tanks, ignited massive fires, and may have caused oil leaks into the Red Sea, according to satellite imagery analysis.
The U.S. military stated the operation targeted a key fuel hub that funds Houthi military operations, including attacks on merchant vessels and U.S. warships in the Red Sea since November 2023. The U.S. says the port was being used not only for fuel imports but also as a launch site for drones and missiles.
