A fire broke out in the dorms of a boarding school for elementary students in central Henan province in China, resulting in the death of 13 third-grade students, Associated Press reports.
The fire occurred in the dormitory room at Yingcai School in the rural Fangcheng district, housing approximately 30 students, the remaining 16 students in the dormitory were safely evacuated.
The school’s owner was detained, and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. Fire safety concerns persist in China, with a tragic incident last April when a hospital fire in Beijing claimed 29 lives.
