Elton John Becomes an EGOT After Winning an Emmy Award

Elton John has achieved EGOT status – an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award winner – after winning his first-ever Emmy for best variety special (live) with “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” The Guardian reports.

However, due to a knee operation, the 76-year-old musician could not accept the award in person. The producer Ben Winston, along with John’s husband David Furnish, accepted the award on his behalf and highlighted the historic nature of the show, which marked Elton John’s last performance in North America on tour and Disney’s first live global stream.

This accomplishment makes Elton John the 19th person to achieve EGOT status in show business, joining the ranks of Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
