The historical drama “Shogun,” set in imperial Japan, won the best drama award at the Emmy Awards, winning a total of 19 Emmys, including acting awards for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, the first Japanese actors to win in their categories, Reuters reports.
HBO’s “Hacks” won the best comedy award, beating out last year’s winner “The Bear.” Jean Smart received her third Emmy for her role in “Hacks,” while “The Bear” set a record for most Emmys in a comedy category with 11 Emmys, including acting awards for Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” won best limited series, and its creator Richard Gadd won both acting and writing awards.
The show was hosted by Schitt’s Creek stars Eugene and Dan Levy, adding lighthearted moments to the event.
