Right-Wing Populist Javier Milei Wins Argentina’s Presidency

Populist candidate Javier Milei has decisively won Argentina’s presidential election after securing 55.7% of the vote in the presidential runoff, marking a rightward shift in the country, AP News reports.

Milei, a self-described anarcho-capitalist and compared to former US President Donald Trump, pledged drastic changes to address inflation and poverty. He plans to reduce the size of the government, dollarize the economy, and eliminate the Central Bank.

He also supports conservative social policies, opposing sex education in schools and abortion.

Milei’s victory represents a demand for change and rejection of the political status quo, according to analysts.
