The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has decided to deploy a “standby force” to restore constitutional order in Niger, AP News reports.
Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara said his country would take part in the military operation, along with Nigeria and Benin.
It’s unclear when and where the ECOWAS force will be deployed, sources claim it will comprise of around 5,000 troops led by Nigeria.
The junta reportedly threatened to kill ousted President Mohamed Bazoum if neighboring countries attempt any military intervention.
