Pakistan’s Ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan Arrested and Sentenced to Three Years in Jail

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been arrested after a court sentenced him to three years in prison for illegally selling state gifts, Reuters reports.

Khan’s arrest is the latest blow to his political standing, after falling out with the military and internal party conflicts.

Khan has denied any wrongdoing and his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court.

This verdict could potentially prevent Khan from contesting the upcoming national election expected in November.
