On Friday, Google’s parent company Alphabet announced it will cut 12,000 jobs, or around 6% of Alphabet’s workforce worldwide.
“We’ve undertaken a rigorous review across product areas and functions to ensure that our people and roles are aligned with our highest priorities as a company. The roles we’re eliminating reflect the outcome of that review.”

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said the layoffs were due to a “changing economic reality” and that hires had been made during “periods of dramatic growth”.
Pichai said he took “full responsibility” for the cuts and US employees will receive 16 weeks of salary, their 2022 bonus, paid vacations and six months of health care.
