China Bans AI-Generated Media Without Watermarks

China’s Cyberspace Administration has announced new regulations prohibiting the use of AI-generated media without clear labels, like watermarks.

AI-generated media has become a growing concern due to the spread of misinformation, the slander of other’s reputation, counterfeit identities and fraud.

In 2023, services that provide intelligent dialogue, synthesized human voice, human face generation, and realistic scenes will be required to mark the content to avoid public confusion.

Companies must also require users to register with their real names and keep records so generation activity can be traceable.
