On Wednesday, the European Parliament designated Russia a state sponsor of terrorism, due to its military strikes on Ukrainian civilian targets, violating international law.

The decision is largely symbolic as the EU does not have a legal framework to back it up, but it has already imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the decision and urged the US and other nations to follow suit, Russia denies allegations of terrorism.
The US has so far refused to list Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, only the four countries of Cuba, North Korea, Iran and Syria currently are.
