Tesla Will Assist Police Probe Into Fatal Crash That Killed Two in China

On Sunday, Tesla said it will assist an investigation by Chinese police into a car accident involving a Model Y car that killed two people and injured three when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

“Police are currently seeking a third party appraisal agency to identify the truth behind this accident and we will actively provide any necessary assistance.”

On Nov. 5, a Model Y car was seen suddenly accelerating and later crashing into other vehicles, Killing a motorcyclist and a high school girl in the city of Chaozhou, Guangdong.

The cause of the incident remains unclear, and the 55-year-old driver claims to have had issues with the brake pedal, according to an unnamed family member.

Tesla said videos of the incident showed that the car’s brake lights never turned on and that its data indicated no action of stepping on the brakes.
