China is planning to send three unmanned missions to the moon, following the discovery of a new lunar mineral that may become an energy source in the future.
On Saturday, Beijing's National Space Administration received approval to launch three orbiters to the moon over the next 10 years.
In 2020, China's Chang'e-5 mission retrieved mineral samples containing helium-3, which they named Changesite-(Y) and could be a future source of energy.
Moon mining could be the next source of tension between the countries as the discovery might increase pressure on the US to step up its efforts.
