‘Avatar 4’ Has Begun Production, Says Filmmaker James Cameron

At the D23 Expo, filmmaker James Cameron joined virtually from New Zealand to announce that Avatar 4 had begun production as well as updates on the upcoming Avatar sequels.
"I'm super excited to be finally finishing up movie two. I know everyone's been waiting a long time. Hopefully, we'll show something today, and you can decide if it's been worth it."

After giving the update on Avatar 4, Cameron told Expo attendees that filming on Avatar 3 was continuing and that Avatar 2 is in post-production.

The release date for Avatar 4 is tentatively set for December 18, 2026. Before that a remastered version of the original Avatar will be in theaters on December 16, 2022.
