China has ordered the Huaqiangbei district in Shenzen, the world's largest electronics wholesale market to close from Monday to Thursday, due to a Covid-19 outbreak.
All stores in the district will be shut down, except for essential businesses, like supermarkets, restaurants and pharmacies. Only takeout are permitted, all dine-in services have been suspended.
All residents are required to work from home during this period and undergo a nucleic acid test every day, according to Huaqiang Electronics World.
In March, the city of over 17 million people, managed to contain a Covid-19 outbreak within a week.
The temporary shutdown of Huaqiangbei could impact supply chains, as the hi-tech industry contribute 20% of Shenzhen's GDP in 2020, according to government data.
