On Friday, China's foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated that the US must fulfill its international duties on climate change and do more than "shout slogans".
The US Supreme Court recently limited the authority of the EPA to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants under the Clean Air Act.
At a briefing, Zhao stated that the ruling has received criticism from the world community and added that "it is not enough to only yell slogans to solve climate change."
Environmentalists in China expressed concern that the move might further erode Beijing and Washington's larger climate cooperation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
"The ruling carries profound implications and will significantly weaken the conditions for future U.S.-China climate talks,"
