European Leaders Visit Kyiv, Support Ukraine’s Application for EU Candidate Status

On Thursday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis attended a press conference in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The four nations said they would support Kyiv's bid for EU candidate status.

Candidate status is not the same as EU membership, it's the start of a lengthy process to enter the European Union.
"We are ready to work for our state to become a full member of the EU. Ukrainians have already earned the right to go down this road and obtain this candidate status."

Macron said that Paris will send "six additional Caesar" mobile howitzers to Ukraine.

Scholz promised to provide military support for Ukraine for "as long as needed."

Iohannis condemned the "weaponization of grain" by Russia.

Draghi promised the country will be rebuilt with European help.
The trip comes amid criticism that European nations like Germany are not doing enough to aid Ukraine.
