Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the US, EU, UK and many other countries imposed sanctioned on the nation.
The Russian State Duma has hinted that it is working on forming a "new Big Eight", with nations not part of the sanctions war.

With the loss of the European market, Russia has increased its economic prospects with India and other allies.
Potential members are China which has not come out in full support of Russia and India which has remained neutral on the conflict.
However, China and India are not on good terms.
Russia was expelled from the G8 back in 2014, following its annexation of Crimea.
