Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) claimed a major underwater attack on the Kerch Bridge linking Russia and Crimea, detonating 1,100 kg of explosives to damage the bridge’s underwater support pillars. This marks the third Ukrainian strike on the strategic bridge since Russia’s 2022 invasion.
The SBU released video footage showing explosions near the pillars and described the bridge as being in “emergency condition,” stating that the operation took months to prepare. Kremlin confirmed the explosion but downplayed the damage, declaring that the bridge was fully operational. Russian officials temporarily suspended traffic on the bridge for about three hours but later reopened the crossing.
Meanwhile, Russia has ramped up attacks near Ukraine’s northeastern border, capturing several villages in the Sumy region. Russian rocket attacks on Sumy on Tuesday killed at least four civilians and injured dozens more.
