Russian Missile Strike Kills Over 20 People in Sumy

A Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Sumy killed at least 20 people and injured over 80 others, including seven children. The attack saw two ballistic missiles hit the city center as people gathered in churches and on the streets to celebrate Palm Sunday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strike, calling it an act of terrorism, stating that only “filthy scum” could carry out such an attack. He called on the international community to take a stronger stance against Russia’s aggression, stating that peaceful talks have failed to stop these violent attacks.

The attack occurred as both Ukraine and Russia were accusing each other of violating a U.S.-brokered energy truce. The strike also followed a visit by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow, where he held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin about a potential peace deal.
