More Than 1,000 People Killed After Two Days of Clashes in Syria

A recent surge in violence in Syria’s coastal region has resulted in nearly 1,000 civilian deaths after a series of brutal clashes between loyalists of ousted President Bashar al-Assad and the interim government’s forces.

The violence began when Assad loyalists ambushed a Syrian security patrol, escalating into widespread clashes and revenge killings targeting the Alawite community, which has historically supported the Assad regime. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported at least 39 massacres since the fighting began, many described as “ethnic cleansing.”

The interim government, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, has declared the end of military operations, though tensions remain high. The international community has condemned the violence, with the United States, Russia, Iran, and China calling for an immediate ceasefire.
