Tesla’s stock fell 8% on Tuesday, dropping its market value below $1 trillion for the first time since November, after reports revealed a 45% sales decline in Europe in January. This decline contrasts with a 37% overall increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales across Europe.
This decline highlights ongoing challenges for Tesla following a decrease in global deliveries last year and growing pressure on CEO Elon Musk to deliver lower-priced models and autonomous cars. Investors are also concerned that Musk’s focus on other ventures, such as SpaceX and involvement in U.S. government affairs, may be distracting him from Tesla.
Despite the drop, Tesla’s market value of $981 billion remains significantly larger than competitors like General Motors, Ford, and Volkswagen. The stock is up 51% over the last year but down 24% year-to-date.
