Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated he is willing to step down if it would bring peace to Ukraine, offering to exchange his departure for NATO membership.
His remarks come amid criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, who had called for elections in Ukraine despite martial law prohibiting them and claimed Zelensky had low approval ratings. Zelensky rejected this claim, citing a recent poll showing 63% support, and accused Russia of spreading misinformation.
Trump has suggested Ukraine owes the U.S. $500 billion for past aid and proposed a deal in which the U.S. would receive 50% of Ukraine’s critical raw materials. Zelensky opposed the deal, stating that Ukraine should not be in debt for past assistance. He emphasized that any deal on minerals must include security guarantees for Ukraine.
