The Danish military confirmed on Thursday that it was monitoring the Chinese-flagged bulk carrier Yi Peng 3, which was reportedly in the vicinity of two recently ruptured undersea data cables in the Baltic Sea, AP News reports.
The ruptures that occurred earlier this week, involving a Finland-Germany cable and a Sweden-Lithuania cable, are under investigation by Finnish, Swedish, and German authorities. Chinese officials stated they had no information on the ship but emphasized the importance of protecting the ship’s navigation rights and was ready to “maintain communication” with relevant parties.
This incident follows a previous rupture of an undersea cable between Sweden and Estonia more than a year ago, which remains unexplained.
