Ukraine Strikes Russia for the First Time with ATACMS Missiles

Ukraine claimed responsibility for striking a Russian arsenal near Karachev in the Bryansk region, located over 110 km from Ukraine, with reports suggesting the first use of US-supplied ATACMS missiles, Reuters reports.

However, Kyiv did not officially confirm the weapon used, but local media indicated that ATACMS missiles were employed in the attack. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported shooting down several Ukrainian drones and missiles in the region, including 85 drones and five ballistic missiles, according to Russia’s state news agency TASS. Ukraine has previously used domestic drones for deep strikes inside Russia and has also begun developing its own missile systems.

The strike follows recent reports that the US had granted Ukraine permission to use long-range missiles to strike targets deeper into Russian territory, a move that had previously been resisted due to fears of escalation. The decision is seen as a response to Russia’s deployment of North Korean ground troops to support its forces.
