Eight Killed, 17 Injured After Mass Stabbing in Eastern China

A former student carried out a stabbing attack at Wuxi Vocational College in Jiangsu, eastern China, killing eight people and injuring 17 others, Reuters reports.

The suspect, a 21-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and confessed that his anger stemmed from failing an exam, not receiving his graduation certificate, and dissatisfaction with his internship pay.

This incident occurred just days after another fatal attack in Zhuhai, where a 62-year-old man rammed his car into a crowd, killing 35 people, reportedly due to frustrations over a divorce settlement.

These incidents have sparked public discussions about mental health, economic stress, and societal frustrations in China as the nation faces economic slowdown and rising youth unemployment. Experts note common factors in such attacks, including feelings of injustice and a lack of avenues for redress.
