Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused North Korea of providing both weapons and soldiers to support Russia in its war against Ukraine, Al Jazeera reports.
Zelensky highlighted the growing alliance between Russia and North Korea, stating that it now includes the transfer of personnel, not just military equipment, to bolster Russian forces. He urged Ukraine’s allies to enhance their military support, calling for long-range missile capabilities to increase pressure on Russia and prevent a larger conflict. Zelensky expressed determination to secure more support, believing that true peace can only be achieved through strength.
South Korea’s Defense Minister suggested a strong possibility of North Korea soldiers being deployed in Ukraine, which Russia has dismissed as “fake news.” North Korea has also been accused of supplying weapons to Russia, with evidence from missile debris found in Ukraine indicating North Korean origins.
The relationship between North Korea and Russia has strengthened since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with recent high-level meetings between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussing military cooperation.
