NATO’s new Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed strong support for Ukraine and confidence in working with either candidate in the upcoming US presidential election, Reuters reports.
Rutte, who took over from Jens Stoltenberg, emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s sovereignty and NATO’s role in international security amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He downplayed concerns about US leadership, citing his experience working with Donald Trump and respect for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Rutte is expected to maintain key NATO priorities, including rallying support for Ukraine, encouraging increased defense spending among NATO members, and ensuring US involvement in European security.
