25 Feared Dead After School Bus Fire in Thailand

Around 25 people were feared dead when a school bus carrying students and teachers on a field trip caught fire near Bangkok in Thailand, Reuters reports.

Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reported the likely death toll of 25, though police could not confirm specifics about injuries or deaths. Sixteen individuals, including students and teachers, were hospitalized for treatment. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Social media images showed thick smoke and flames engulfing the bus, which was later extinguished. Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed her condolences to the victims’ families, noting that the students were from Uthai Thani province, approximately 250 km north of Bangkok.
