Myanmar’s flooding death toll has risen to 74, with 89 people missing, triggered by heavy rains from Typhoon Yagi, according to state media, Reuters reports.
The flooding was triggered by Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm to hit Asia this year, affecting countries like Vietnam and Thailand as well. The floods have severely impacted central Myanmar, destroying five dams, four pagodas, and over 65,000 houses. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, but damaged infrastructure and disrupted communication have hampered relief efforts.
Myanmar, already in turmoil since the 2021 military coup, is struggling with violence and limited humanitarian aid due to access restrictions and security challenges in the conflict-stricken areas.
