British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been urged by five former Conservative defense secretaries and ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles inside Russia, according to the Sunday Times, Reuters reports.
The group argued that any delay would embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly requested Western allies to provide long-range missiles, such as US ATACMS and British Storm Shadows, to strike deep into Russia.
Starmer and US President Joe Biden discussed the issue in Washington, but no decision was made. Some US officials remain skeptical about the impact of such missile use, while Putin has warned that it would mean direct conflict between Russia and the West.
