Typhoon Yagi Death Toll Rises to 127 in Vietnam

The death toll from Vietnam’s worst storm this year has reached 127, with 54 people missing and 764 injured, as floods and landslides continue to devastate northern provinces, Reuters reports.

The storm, which made landfall on Saturday, caused widespread destruction, including the collapse of a major bridge and the flooding of industrial and residential areas. The storm has damaged nearly 50,000 houses and over 160,000 hectares of crops. Several rivers, including the Red River, have risen to alarming levels, threatening the capital Hanoi and prompting evacuations. Landslides and flash floods have claimed most of the lives.

Evacuations continue in several areas, with soldiers deployed to assist flood victims. The full economic cost of the damage is yet to be determined. Some industrial hubs, like Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen, also face severe flooding, potentially impacting factories, including those linked to Samsung and Apple suppliers.
