Romania tracked a drone entering and exiting its airspace, prompting the deployment of F-16 fighter jets and warnings for residents to take cover. The drone crashed in an uninhabited area near Periprava, and authorities are searching the impact zone. Romania, which shares a border with Ukraine, is considering new legislation allowing drones invading the country’s airspace to be shot down in peacetime.
Latvia reported a drone entered from Belarus and crashed near Rezekne. Latvian officials called for a unified NATO response and emphasized the need to strengthen air defense along NATO’s eastern flank.
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana condemned the incidents but stated there was no evidence of deliberate attacks on NATO members.
